Let the record teach us what to ask
New material can reveal a missing name, a contradiction, or the next useful question—not just fill a generic memoir template.
About the studio
Kin & Chronicle is a human-led family story studio by Unwindology Press. Douglas Chapman scopes each commission, curates its question rounds, makes editorial decisions, coordinates family review, and remains accountable for the finished book.

Why I began this work
The family knew the photographs mattered. The harder question was how to preserve the voices, context, uncertainty, and meaning around them.
Kin & Chronicle grew from the practical difficulty of preserving my own parents' stories and family records. The materials did not arrive as a clean manuscript. They arrived as memories, research, images, questions, and knowledge distributed across people.
I built the studio around the structure families are usually missing: a way for each new contribution to improve the next question, a way to keep sources connected to claims, room for correction and disagreement, and an editorial path from scattered material to a readable book and organized record the family can understand and keep.
What the studio is responsible for
The work draws from family contributions, developmental editing, archival thinking, research, book design, production, and the practical realities of families.
New material can reveal a missing name, a contradiction, or the next useful question—not just fill a generic memoir template.
Beautiful prose is stronger when record, recollection, uncertainty, and interpretation remain honestly distinguishable.
The goal is not a dashboard full of material. It is a book worth reading, an archive worth keeping, and a project that can be responsibly closed.
Technology assists. A person answers for the work.
AI-assisted tools can transcribe, organize, compare, search, identify gaps, and propose follow-up questions or draft changes. They do not decide what is true. Douglas reviews those suggestions, directs the editorial work, and answers for the sentence that enters a family's permanent record; the family reviews meaningful checkpoints before publication.
